Youth4Biodiversity

Empowering Youth through Systems Thinking, Taking Action and Entrepreneurial Change

I met many wonderful people during the youth exchange that gave me an insight into how they see nature - it was a great way to learn how we can teach sustainability with emotions and positive feelings

About the project

Youth4Biodiversity is an Erasmus+ co-funded youth exchange project bringing together young people from Germany, Sweden, Portugal, and Italy to empower them as active agents of biodiversity protection. The project supports youth in developing environmental literacy, critical thinking, and practical skills, while encouraging them to take concrete action for biodiversity conservation at local, national, and European levels.

The project is structured as a three-part learning journey, combining education, hands-on action, and entrepreneurial thinking. In the first exchange, held in Orrefors, Sweden, participants explore biodiversity loss and systemic environmental challenges, building systems-thinking skills through outdoor activities, biodiversity mapping, and interactive workshops on EU environmental policies. Between exchanges, participants raise awareness and share knowledge in their local communities.

The second exchange, in Erfurt, Germany, focuses on taking action through nature-based solutions. Participants design and test small-scale biodiversity initiatives, engage with local stakeholders, and strengthen their understanding of future literacy, greenwashing, and environmental policymaking. Local pilot actions allow them to apply what they have learned in real community contexts.

The final exchange, in Pietrasanta, Italy, supports participants in transforming their ideas into sustainable biodiversity projects. Young people develop green entrepreneurship, advocacy, and leadership skills, explore funding opportunities, and present their initiatives to local stakeholders at a public youth-led event. By the end of the project, participants are equipped not only to advocate for biodiversity, but also to scale their ideas into long-term, community-driven solutions, supported by cross-border cooperation and strong European networks.
