Highlights of the New Inherit project

CGE (Culture Goes Europe) proudly continues into 2025 with the Creative Europe project “NEW INHERIT: Innovation 4 Heritage”, an initiative reimagining Europe’s cultural heritage through innovation, sustainability, and community engagement. After an impactful year in 2024, which included the first international training course for cultural ambassadors in Germany, the project sets the stage for further transformative developments this year.

A major achievement in this process has been the first training course (link to the open call for this event – click here) of cultural ambassadors from all partner countries that took place in November 2024 in Berlin, Erfurt, and Weimar, Germany. This intensive program brought together 24 dedicated activists from Spain, Belgium, Germany, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Italy, all committed to revitalizing cultural heritage and fostering sustainable innovation in their communities.

These ambassadors, carefully selected for their expertise and passion for the cultural sector, engaged in a dynamic training program designed to equip them with the tools and knowledge necessary to advance the project’s goals. Through hands-on activities, workshops, and collaborative sessions, they refined their skills in activating cultural spaces, repurposing heritage sites, and driving community-focused initiatives. The training also placed a strong emphasis on non-formal education and social inclusion, ensuring that socially excluded groups were meaningfully integrated into the processes. Participants benefited from study visits, local activities, and a robust mentoring program, all of which supported their efforts to create lasting change in their respective regions.

CGE, as the organizing body for the German events, took pride in hosting this transformative experience, providing a platform for cross-cultural collaboration and innovation. During the training course in November 2024, cultural ambassadors from across Europe had the unique opportunity to visit inspiring cultural spaces in Germany, including C*Space and Brotfabrik in Berlin, OMA e.V in Weimar, and Saline 34 in Erfurt. These visits were an integral part of the program, offering ambassadors valuable insights into the adaptive reuse of heritage sites and providing real-world examples of how culture and innovation can revitalize urban spaces. With the successful completion of this training, CGE has laid a strong foundation for the next phases of the NEW INHERIT project. As cultural ambassadors return to their respective countries, they are now equipped to implement innovative projects that breathe new life into heritage spaces, promote non-formal education, and strengthen their local creative sectors.

Building on the momentum from 2024, NEW INHERIT plans to continue its focus on empowering local talent and supporting community participation in heritage space reactivation. One key upcoming event will be the first meeting with the German ambassadors and OMA Weimar, set to take place on the 17th of February 2025. Additionally, Murcia, Spain, is set to host the next round of training for cultural ambassadors in April 2025, where partners will share best practices and explore innovative approaches to cultural heritage.

With partners across Europe working hand in hand, NEW INHERIT is paving the way for a more inclusive, sustainable, and innovative approach to cultural heritage in 2025 and beyond. In turn, CGE remains at the forefront of this transformative initiative, committed to ensuring that cultural heritage is not only preserved but also serves as a driver of innovation and community engagement. Follow the journey of NEW INHERIT through our newsletters and social media channels, and stay tuned for opportunities to get involved in this exciting movement shaping Europe’s cultural future.
