We’re thrilled to announce the release of our brand-new manual, Inside Out 2.0: Outdoor Education as a Tool for Integration and Skill Development. A practical, inspiring and field-tested resource created by youth workers, for youth workers.
We developed this manual as part of the Inside Out 2.0 Erasmus+ training course, a project that brought together youth workers, educators, social workers, community psychologists and NGO practitioners from across Europe to explore how nature, experiential learning, and outdoor activities can transform the way we engage and support NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), marginalized and disengaged young people. And now, the tangible outcome of the training course has been brought together in a new publication that gathers the activities created by participants, with step-by-step guides, and practical implementation tips: easy to adapt, easy to run, and designed to create meaningful learning experiences outdoors.
A manual with purpose
Inside Out 2.0 is far more than a recap of a training course. It’s a resource for participants and partner organizations in their local follow-up activities and a way to ensure the wider dissemination of the project’s results. It’s a manual to accompany youth workers in their day-to-day practice.
Across Europe, and especially in Iceland, the challenges faced by NEET and marginalized youth are becoming increasingly urgent. Unemployment, educational inequality and social exclusion contribute to cycles of marginalization and poor mental health outcomes. Inside Out 2.0 was born from the need to respond to these problems with practical tools, real experiences and methods that youth workers can bring straight into their communities.
This second edition builds on the success of the original Inside Out project (2023-1-IS01-KA210-You-000160096) and incorporates the insights we gained along the way, especially the powerful impact of: outdoor education and experiential learning. These approaches strengthen resilience and social inclusion, and represent a way to co-create innovative and non-formal strategies in youth work practice.
A resource for the future
Meaningful change doesn’t happen in the training course alone. It happens when tools are carried home, adapted, shared and used again in creative ways. Inside Out 2.0 ensures that the knowledge, creativity and strategies developed during the mobility remain accessible to everyone, even after the project has ended. It is meant to inspire and support youth workers in their daily practice: each activity included has been designed with real-world applicability in mind, offering youth workers tools they can directly adapt to their own contexts and communities.
Whether you’re a youth worker looking for fresh ideas, an educator passionate about experiential learning, or an organization searching for proven tools to support and engage marginalized youth, this manual is for you.
