On the evening of February 8th the office of CGE was full of chatter, disputes and emotional expressions. The neighbours every now and then would pass the room and unwittingly checked what was happing. It was our Simulation Night and “The Plagueville” game that brought up so much attention.
Everything started back in August 2017 when the participants of the German-Ukrainian-Russian Youth Exchange “Quo vadis, Europe?” developed several simulation games as the outcomes of the project. The scenarios would tackle the issues of unfair balance of power in a city, absence of the rule of law, the struggle between traditions and progress, family relations and public opinion – everything what our society consists of! And “The Plagueville” was all about it.
The story of “The Plagueville” starts with the upcoming fest that the governor of the city is going to hold. He is also eager to announce his soon marriage to the daughter of one of the influential clans – Salsellas Family. Unfortunately for him, there are forces far beyond his reach, who want to stop the marriage from happening! And what if one of these forces is… love?!
The game brought together the students of the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt, EVS volunteers from Europäische Jugendbildungs- und Jugendbegegnungsstätte Weimar, local youth, CGE team members, interns and volunteers as well. The modareration was done by Marina Bykova, CGE project manager and one of the coordinators of initial German-Ukrainian-Russian Youth Exchange.
