Meet Mahmoud, our New ESC volunteer

Hey, this is Mahmoud Attwany from Aswan, the most beautiful city in Egypt.

I am not biased, of course.

I graduated in 2025 from Aswan University, where I studied Computer Engineering and Systems. I also completed the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate.

Before coming to CGE, I worked in tourism for several years. Aswan is a touristic city, so many people start working in this field from a young age. I started in a tourist shop, working in sales for around five years. Later, I became a local tour guide and ran one of the top-rated Airbnb Experiences in Aswan for four years.

So yes, my story has a mix of engineering, data science, tourism, people, cultures, and many unexpected turns.

That is also why I decided to become an ESC volunteer. I wanted to explore new opportunities, learn more about myself, and use my experience in a new environment. When I found out that CGE was looking for a new volunteer, I felt that this was exactly what I was looking for.

But the story did not end there.

Since I am from Egypt, I needed a visa. Maybe you do not know how that feels, so let me explain it in one sentence. It was a long, boring, stressful process that took almost three months.

But if you are reading this, it means I made it.

Now I am happy to be part of CGE and the ESC journey. I want to support the team, learn from the people around me, and be involved in projects that connect young people from different backgrounds. I care about culture, communication, and creating spaces where people can understand each other better.

I am also excited to learn German, make new friends, introduce my culture, and learn about other cultures too. I believe we can build bridges between people, especially young people, because we are the future decision-makers.

We should be educated.

We should be open.

We should understand each other.

And of course, we should have fun too.

That is all for now.

Mahmoud is engaged in CGE within the Community goes Europe 7 project. The project is funded under the European Solidarity Corps program of the European Union.
