First session:
On July 28th 2026, REMEDY 2.0 officially kicked with its first public online event, welcoming participants from across Europe. The launch marked the beginning of a series of activities that will take place throughout the project, introducing the project’s mission to connect historical memory with critical thinking and active citizenship to today’s democratic challenge.
The event was opened with the first session, in the morning, by EProjectConsult, who welcomed participants and introduced the overall vision of the project. The consortium presented the roadmap for the coming months, highlighting that REMEDY 2.0 is much more than a single event, it is a long-term European collaboration that will engage citizens in reflecting on the past while shaping the future.
Participants were also introduced to the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme through an introductory video, providing context for how the project contributes to strengthening democratic values, participation and European identity.
Why REMEDY 2.0?
The project addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing Europe today: declining trust in democratic institutions; increasing political polarisation; the spread of disinformation; weakening civic participation among citizens.
REMEDY 2.0 starts from the belief that understanding Europe’s history is essential for protecting its democratic future. By connecting historical memory with contemporary issues, the project encourages citizens to think critically, engage in dialogue and become active participants in their communities.
The REMEDY Formula
Participants discovered the methodology that will shape future project activities: 1) Start from Memory by exploring historical events, places and testimonies. 2) Connect it to Today by linking historical experiences with current democratic challenges. 3) Make Citizens Interact through participatory discussions, collaborative problem-solving and creative activities. 4) Produce Something by creating tangible outputs such as videos, podcasts, exhibitions or campaigns. 5) Inspire Action by encouraging participants to continue civic engagement beyond the project itself.
This formula ensures that learning is participatory, practical and action-oriented.
Building Europe Together:
The second part of the event, which took place in the evening, transformed learning into interaction through a series of collaborative games and discussions. Participants reflected on a series of questions, starting: What should never be missing in Europe?
Responses such as cooperation, unity, innovation, solidarity, and peace quickly emerged as common values.
Then they were then invited to describe Europe in a single word and to consider an important forward-looking question: Which quality will young people need most in the coming years?
Among all responses, critical thinking received the highest number of votes, reflecting participant’s recognition of its importance in addressing misinformation, democratic participation and future societal challenges.
An engaging EU Match activity paired participants together to answer questions about European partnerships, encouraging dialogue and networking across countries.
Finally, everyone contributed to a collaborative reflection by completing the sentence: “We build Europe when…”. The exercise generated inspiring ideas centred on cooperation, participation, mutual understanding and shared responsibility, perfectly capturing the spirit of the project.
Looking Ahead
The launch event concluded with a clear message: building Europe is an ongoing process that depends on informed, engaged and active citizens.
As participants completed their first step of the REMEDY 2.0 journey, they left with a stronger understanding of the project’s mission and a shared commitment to preserving Europe’s democratic values through historical memory, critical thinking and active citizenship.
This is only the beginning. Throughout the coming months, REMEDY 2.0 will continue bringing together people from across Europe to learn from the past, connect with one another and shape a more democratic future together.
