October is an important month for students in Erfurt. As the new academic year gets underway, it is the perfect opportunity to meet new people, discover local initiatives, and explore opportunities for international exchange. For Culture Goes Europe (CGE), this means getting out there, meeting students where they are, and introducing them to the possibilities that intercultural learning and European cooperation can offer. Last week, CGE took part in 3 events across Erfurt, connecting with students through cultural activities, university presentations, and interactive learning experiences.

1. Meeting students at the Kulturmeile
On 13 October 2026, CGE joined the Kulturmeile as part of Studi Welcome 2026, held at Zughafen Kulturbahnhof in Erfurt.
Bringing together culture, music, DJs, and a lively party atmosphere, the event offered students a welcoming space to discover the city’s cultural scene and connect with students and local organisations.
For CGE, it was a valuable opportunity to introduce our work to Erfurt’s student community. By being part of events that bring students together, we aim to make our organisation more visible and encourage young people to discover opportunities for intercultural exchange, participation, and personal development.

2. Introducing CGE to International Students at the University of Erfurt
On 14 October, CGE visited the University of Erfurt to give a presentation to students of the Global Communication master’s programme.
The presentation introduced students to CGE’s mission, activities, and opportunities to get involved in intercultural projects and international learning experiences. It was also an opportunity to connect with students interested in global communication, cultural diversity, and international cooperation.
Engaging directly with university students is an important part of our outreach work. We want students to know that learning and exchange can happen beyond the classroom, through community initiatives, international projects, and active participation in European society.

3. Exploring the Sustainable Development Goals Through Education and Migration
On Friday, 16 October, CGE joined the workshop SDG Interconnections Through Educational Migration Experiences, organised by Ansole at the University of Erfurt.
The workshop explored an important question: How do health, gender, water, energy, and inequality shape our experiences of education?
Through interactive activities and the perspectives of international students, participants explored the connections between different United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the realities of educational migration.
The workshop highlighted how access to education is connected to many aspects of everyday life, including health and well-being, gender equality, access to essential resources, and social and economic inequalities.
For CGE, participating in this initiative was an opportunity to support dialogue, share perspectives, and promote a broader understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by international students. It also reinforced the importance of connecting education, sustainability, and intercultural learning.

Building Connections Beyond the Classroom
These three events reflect an important part of CGE’s work: creating opportunities for students to connect, learn, participate, and discover new perspectives. Whether through cultural gatherings, university presentations, or interactive workshops, we believe that meaningful encounters can help build a more open, inclusive, and connected community.
As October continues, we look forward to meeting more students in Erfurt, sharing what Culture Goes Europe has to offer, and encouraging young people to become part of our activities.
