HiER SPIELEN WIR! – Bringing the Neighbourhood Together

Last Sunday, CGE and our Greek Fellow Mariana Anthropelou joined forces to bring local families together for an interactive day of play in Erfurt. The event was the first in a series that seeks to foster neighborhood cohesion through the creation of collaborative playgrounds and is part of our ongoing collaboration with START! Create Cultural Change – a capacity building and fellowship program for aspiring cultural managers in Greece.

We were met with blue skies and sunshine as our team members and volunteers interacted with local families. A major theme of the event was learning creative ways to use second hand materials and items you can find in your own home for the purpose of play. Children worked primarily with cardboard and their imagination to create fun interactive games and toys, such as houses, cars, and puzzle boxes. Participants in the event were from a wide variety of backgrounds and several languages could be heard throughout the day. We were pleased to see the wonderful turnout and the power of play as a universal language!

Interested in joining us for another day of play and an interactive workshop for you and your child? Check out our upcoming event at Stadtteilzentrum am Herrenberg (STZ), in Erfurt, on November 3rd from 10:00 – 17:00 and follow us on Facebook and Instagram! We look forward to seeing you there!

START is a program of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, which is carried out in cooperation with the Goethe-Institute Thessaloniki and the Federal Association of Sociocultural Centers, supported by the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and the Bodossaki Foundation. You can read more about it here.
